wheel_yum Cool album and the presentation is great… Record is an upcycled laserdisc sandwiched between layers of vinyl. Outer sleeve is the laserdisc’s sleeve, folded inside-out. I peeked inside and think I got a German language version of Rin Tin Tin K9 Cop? 🤣

Maybe the vinyl layers are too thin as, unfortunately, there are so many skips!! Maybe a bad pressing or perhaps just my copy? Tried to give it a cleaning, but no luck. 😭 Something to consider when ordering from the USA as shipping is expensive! Favorite track: A Mechanism.

about

“Scavenges, Time-travels, and Scrapbooks” contains various pieces created out of gathered matter from notebooks, phone recordings, and computer sketches piling up along the way of a few years, across a few locations.

The album opens on “Painkiller II”, second version of the very first Purpur Spytt’s song, a cathartic spit that turned into a mellow statement. “On a Circle” invites you to reflect on rainy days. Speaking of the weather, “Out” points through the window. “Luggage in the Stairs” questions the immaterial heritage. “Heatwave” talks about our fucked up world and opens a floor to dance on it. “A Mechanism” is a smoky thought on human behaviors and their origins. “Get Out” points to the door now. “Freewheeling” is basically about indoor cycling in the mud. “Announcement” points to the head. “Trapped” mocks the most terrible feeling. “The Circumstances” is the last Staches song that never got recorded and it laughs about confusing the context for an excuse. “Go Outside” kicks your butt out now, last reminder to get out of your head sometimes. As a closure, “Party Town” describes a long and laborious attempt to exit the party zone.

BIO:

Purpur Spytt performs as a one-woman band, even though she might not be all alone in her head… she plays some wavy pop-ish post-punk with lots of bass lines and very few guitar chords. Ironic, not to say satirical, her lyrics are loaded with existential meanings, not to say statements. You know what we say ; better to laugh…

Purpur Spytt is a fictional character created by Charlotte Mermoud (Maraudeur, The Staches). Now based in Geneva, Switzerland, she has been mainly active between 2016 and 2019, writing and recording in Leipzig, Germany, and touring Europe.

After a 10’’ split with Maraudeur in 2016 on Le Syndicat des Scorpions, the "Nitpick" 7’’ EP in 2018 on Le Syndicat des Scorpions, Pouet Schallplatten, Kakakids Records, and 1000 Balles, and a cassette in the US compiling both releases in 2018 on Vacant Stare Records, Purpur Spytt is back with a first full length album. "Scavenges, Time-travels, and Scrapbooks" will be out on LP on January 22, 2024 with Mini Distro Label Records and on cassette with FTCN Ediciones. A Swiss tour is booked for that week.
